Lake Buena Vista, Fla. — Walt Disney World visitors can spin in tea cups, fly with Dumbo, journey “Under the Sea,” meet Belle and Ariel, and now ride a twisting-and-rocking mine train like Sleepy, Doc and Dopey in the Magic Kingdom’s newly re-imagined Fantasyland.
The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train opened May 28 and is the final development of the 11-acre expansion that doubled Fantasyland’s size and added attractions. It is the largest expansion in the Magic Kingdom’s 42-year history.
“Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is both literally and figuratively the centerpiece of New Fantasyland, so we knew it had to be something special,” said Tom Staggs, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman, during the media preview May 2.
Like the “Heigh-Ho”-whistling dwarfs, riders will cross rolling stone bridges to the dwarfs’ cozy cottage in the woods to see Sleepy, Doc, Grumpy, Bashful, Sneezy, Happy, Dopey and Snow White before riding to the mine where “a million diamonds shine.”
The first of its kind, this roller coaster’s five-car trains will sway back and forth as they drop down hills and twist around hairpin turns past shining gems and scenes of the Seven Dwarfs interacting with forest animals.
“The attraction,” Staggs said, “appeals to everyone in the family and provides just the right blend of heart, humor and thrill, while keeping with the charm of this special land.”
Riders must be 38 inches tall to ride this coaster, and FastPass+, which allows guests to ride an attraction during a specified time period with a shorter wait time, is available. Every Disney World guest can get one FastPass+ for up to three attractions by visiting a kiosk inside the Magic Kingdom or by setting them up on their My Disney Experience app. Once all three passes are used or the designated time expires, guests can make a FastPass+ selection for an additional attraction at the Magic Kingdom or one of the other Disney theme parks visited that day. Additional FastPass+ selections must be made at a kiosk.
Other New Fantasyland attractions to ride using a FastPass+ include Peter Pan’s Flight, which Disney World cast members and annual-pass holders said consistently has a long line, and Enchanted Tales with Belle, another new addition in Fantasyland.
At Enchanted Tales with Belle, guests enter Maurice’s cottage, where Belle grew up, before making their way into his workshop and through a magic mirror to the Beast’s library – which has more than 12,000 books — to meet the golden-gown-wearing princess.
“Beauty and the Beast” attractions also include the Beast’s Castle, which has 115 windows and provides a stunning backdrop.
Guests can also drink LeFou’s Brew— a non-alcoholic, apple-flavored frozen slushie topped with a mango-and-passion-fruit foam — at Gaston’s Tavern or eat French-inspired food at Be Our Guest, where three rooms were designed like scenes from the animated film.
