LANHAM — Authorities have reported a Prince George’s County was teen safely located after being missing for more than a month.
In an update released on Oct. 8, police said that Janee Monique Deville had been found in another state.
Prince George’s County police and detectives searched the New York area for weeks to find the 15-year-old, who went missing on Sept. 4, the first day of school. She was seen on surveillance video with her boyfriend buying a ticket to New York from Washington Union Station, police confirmed.
Deville is a sophomore at Duval High School and was seen in her school uniform that day.
In a Sept. 20 report published by PGPD, the department’s Regional Investigation Division sought help in locating Deville.
Since Deville has been safely found, no further details have been released.
Elderly pedestrian killed in fatal collision
SUITLAND — Police have identified an elderly woman who died in an Oct. 9 fatal pedestrian collision.
Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision in Suitland which resulted in the death of 71-year-old Blanche Jones of Oxon Hill, officials said.
According to the police report, patrol officers were called to Silver Hill Road near Brooks Drive after a pedestrian was struck by a car on Oct. 9 at roughly 1 p.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed the involved car was heading northbound on Silver Hill Road when it struck Jones as she attempted to cross the roadway. Jones was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly thereafter.
The driver of the car was uninjured and remained on scene.
Investigators are reportedly working to determine who had the right of way in the accident.
Washington man murdered in PG County, detectives still investigating the shooting
LANHAM — A Washington, D.C. man has died from gunshot wounds suffered in a Lanham shooting, according a statement released by Prince George’s County Police.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit of the Prince George’s County Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting in Lanham that occurred, killing 28-year-old Anthony Freeland of Minnesota Avenue in Southeast Washington.
According to authorities, the incident occurred Oct. 3 at around 9:35 p.m. and patrol officers were called to the 6500 block of Manton Way in Lanham in response to a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Freeland on a sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Officials said detectives do not believe this was a random crime and are working to identify a suspect and a motive. No additional details have been issued.
Police said a monetary reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. Police are urging anyone with information relevant to the investigation to call detectives at 301-772-4925.
Deceased baby found in High Point High School bathroom still under investigation
BELTSVILLE — A baby was found dead in a Prince George’s County high school bathroom the early morning of Oct. 3, Prince George’s County Police said.
A school resource officer assigned to High Point High School in Beltsville was alerted to a baby in one of the school bathrooms.
Local media outlets report that students, parents, teachers and others in the school community were appalled and disheartened when they learned of the incident. It is not clear who found the newborn.
The investigation revealed that the baby was delivered the same morning it died. The female who delivered the baby was located at the school and received medical care.
“Our students’ well-being is our top priority. We assure you that today’s circumstances did not pose a threat to our students or staff,” High Point Principal Nicole Isley-McClure said in a statement.
“We encourage you to speak with your child about the importance of confiding in a trusted adult, such as a counselor, teacher, administrator or coach, if they have any concerns about their safety and well-being.”
No further information has been released regarding the progress detectives have made in determining whether the baby was a stillbirth.
According to officials, an autopsy has been ordered but no report has been released yet.
