UPPER MARLBORO – Guard Kyree Freeman-Davis scored a team-high 15 points, and senior Jordan Harris added 13 as the Bowie High School boys basketball team secured an upset away win over Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School, 65-62, on the evening of Jan. 11.
With the huge comeback win the Bulldogs improve to 8-4 on the season and snap the Puma’s nine-game win streak.
Heading into the final eight minutes, the Pumas held a 47-42 lead that gradually slipped, as a result of some costly mistakes on the defensive end. Bowie took advantage, outscoring Wise 23-15 in the fourth quarter thanks to their offensive play, Pumas Head Coach Lou Wilson said.
“The deciding factor in that fourth quarter, going down the stretch, was the fact that Bowie had an opportunity to make a couple of big shots from the perimeter,” Wilson said. “Also, they got some key rebounds late in the game to secure the victory.”
Freeman-Davis, a senior guard, really hit the boards hard in the game’s closing moments and scored eight fourth-quarter points to help Bowie improve to 6-1 in Prince George’s County 4A regional play.
Leading the way for Wise was forward Joel Webb, a 6-foot-6 senior who recorded a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds. Additionally, senior guard Fred Crowell paced Wise early on and had 14 points, four boards, and six assists. Gabriel Arnold contributed with 13 points and four rebounds for the Pumas, who led 34-31 at halftime.
