BOWIE – The Bowie Baysox celebrated the Fourth of July with their own brand of fireworks before the show, crushing the Harrisburg Senators in a 13-0 victory in front of 7,947 fans at the Prince George’s Stadium.
The Baysox, who wore their camouflage jerseys to celebrate the holiday, started firing off their bats early with three home runs in the first inning. Designated hitter Yusniel Diaz started the spree with a two-run homer and was followed by outfielder Rylan Bannon’s two-run blast into right field. Infielder Jesmuel Valentín capped off the inning with a solo home run to give Bowie a five-run advantage.
Bowie capitalized on a fielding error to drive in two runs in the bottom of the second while Ryan McKenna connected with an RBI double to add two more points on to the scoreboard. The hits continued at the bottom of the eighth as Mckenna’s double and Diaz’s single scored two more runs for the home team. The Baysox finished the game with 12 hits.
Left-hander Bruce Zimmermann pitched seven shutout innings while only surrendering five hits and striking out seven batters. Right-hander Pedro Araujo finished off the Senators by pitching the final two innings and throwing one strikeout to solidify the huge win.
After the game, fans continued celebrating the victory with the stadium’s annual fireworks show.
